Intra-Oral Massage

Intra-Oral MassageIntra-Oral Massage is a massage therapy technique designed for clients with any type of Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) issue such as decreased range of motion, pain or clicking within the jaw.

Treatment involves working directly on the chewing muscles both inside and outside of the client’s mouth so that the therapist can effectively decrease trigger points and tension in the muscles affecting the TMJ.

The temporomandibular joint connects the lower jaw (mandible) to the skull (temporal bone) in front of the ear. Specific facial muscles that control chewing are also attached to the lower jaw. Problems in this area can cause head and neck pain, facial pain, ear pain, headaches, a jaw that is locked in position or difficult to open, problems with biting, and clicking or popping sounds.

Intra-oral massage therapy treatments can be an effective way to decrease these symptoms, increase range of motion and increase circulation to the TMJ muscles. Many clients notice tremendous results with this type of treatment.
